Correspondence Courses
Most of our courses are offered via correspondence. Although this may be a longer pathway to gaining qualifications, it may be more suitable for those living in rural and remote areas.
With all of our correspondence courses, we ensure the student is given all of the resource materials they require to complete the course successfully.
We offer the following three Statements of Attainment and Certificate III:
Pest Management Licensing
This qualification must be completed within 12 months of your enrolment date. It is designed to provide you with the basic knowledge and skills to be a licensed pest management technician. The course covers both training and assessment. After completing your training and assessment, you will receive a Statement of Attainment which can then be submitted to your government licensing office to receive your license.

The Units are:
PRMPM05B - Modify environment to manage pests
PRMPM06B - Apply pesticides to manage pests
PRMPM18B - Maintain an equipment and chemical storage area
Topics covered include:
- Legislation relevant to those involved in public health pest control
- Storage and transport of pesticides
- Control of vertebrate pests including rats, mice, birds, possums and feral cats
- Public health insect pest biology and control including cockroaches, ants, wasps, flies, biting insects, stored product insects etc
- Pesticide application equipment
- Personal protective equipment
- Choice and use of insecticide and rodenticide formulations
- New developments in active ingredients, formulations and application techniques
Please Note: For this course you will be required to participate in an on-site assessment. These assessments are usually undertaken at our head office in Erina NSW, which usually take 1-2 hours. Termites and Timber pests
This qualification must be completed within 12 months of your enrolment date. It is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to be a competent Termite and Timber Pest Manager. The course covers both training and assessment. Upon completion of your training and assessment, you will receive a Statement of Attainment which can be submitted to your government licensing office, insurer or accreditor.

The Units are:
PRMPM08B - Inspect and report on timber pests
PRMPM10B - Control timber pests
Topics covered include:
- Timber Pest biology and control including Termites, Borers and Wood Decay Fungi
- Australian Standards and other documents pertaining to Timber Pests
- Inspection and Reporting of Timber Pests
- Options and proposals for timber pest management
- Set up and monitoring of Termite Programs
- Overview of Physical Termite Barriers
- Resolving conflict

Unit 42A Install Physical Termite Barriers (PRMPM42A)
This qualification must be completed within 12 months of your enrolment date. It covers the unit required for timber pest management to new buildings. Some states of Australia e.g. Queensland require this unit as part of your licensing program if you are doing new building work.
Topics covered will expand the following:
- The details of building construction as they pertain to the installation of Termite Barriers.
- The skills and knowledge required to install physical termite barriers, including barriers that combine physical and chemical characteristics.
- The application of physical termite barriers in both pre- and post-construction applied to domestic, commercial and industrial construction.

The Certificate III in Asset Maintenance
Pest Management Technical
Some students may wish to do the entire Certificate III in Asset Maintenance Pest Management Technical. MPL Training Centre offers this qualification via correspondence. Please note if you have done part of it via Face to Face with MPL Training Centre i.e. General Pest Licensing (Units 5, 6 & 18) as well as Termite and Timber Pest (Units 8 & 10), then the remaining units will be supplied to you for free.
This qualification must be completed within 18 months of your enrolment date. It includes all units required for licensing, termites and timber pest management, as well as other relevant technical units.
Certificate III in Asset Maintenance Pest Management Technical
The entire Certificate III qualification is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to be a technical level urban pest manager. The course encompasses the units of competence for both Pest Management Licensing and Timber Pest Management as well as several further technical units.
To complete the entire Certificate III, you require the following units:

PRMPM26B - Select & obtain pest management equipment & materials
PRMPM28B - Organise and operate a pest management vehicle
PRMPM43A - Prepare & present a pest management submission including quotation
PRMCMN302A - Respond to client inquiries and complaints
Elective units (You must choose 2 from the following)
PRMPM08B - Inspect and report on timber pests
PRMPM10B - Control timber pests
PRMPM11B - Conduct fumigation
PRMPM19B - Organise and monitor pest management operations
PRMPM29B - Plan and schedule pest management operations
PRMPM42A - Install physical termite barriers
BSBHR402A - Recruit and select personnel
BSBSBM407 - Manage a small team
Please note: You can also complete your Certificate III with 2 electives other than Units 8 & 10 (Timber Pests).

Fumigation
In order to gain your Fumigation qualification and meet licensing requirements you need to complete the following units or be deemed competent based on your existing knowledge and experience:

PRMPM06B - Apply pesticides to manage pests
PRMPM11B - Conduct fumigation
MPL Training Centre only offers the unit PRMPM11B – Conduct Fumigation by Assessment Only Pathway or Recognition of Prior Learning. Face to Face training and correspondence courses in Fumigation are not offered. Unit PRMPM06B can be completed through MPL Training Centre by Face to Face or Correspondence
