How does RPL and RCC work?
To be assessed as competent in a unit you can follow one of 2 paths.
1. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where the candidate can show that they are already competent by way of their current qualifications and/or showing evidence of their work experience.
2. Recognition of Current Competency (RCC).
This is a simpler process where you can show that you are already competent in a unit of competency by way of your current qualifications and showing samples of your work. The process relies heavily on your presentation of documentary evidence to support your competency. The assessor will review your evidence and where necessary add to it by using other supporting evidence such as oral questioning.
The suggested way of approaching Recognition of Prior Learning with MPL Training Centre is as follows:
- You enrol with us in the required Certificate or Statement:
- We speak with you to find out about your particular situation, the level of previous and current experience, and the types of evidence the you may be able to provide.
- We put together an RPL package tailored to your needs. This will include a combination of the most appropriate items from our Assessment Tools.
- When you receive your RPL package, you begin the collection of some evidence to support your competence in the workplace.
- Together with your employer or workplace coach we support you through this process by providing ongoing advice and guidance. During this time we may begin to formulate a judgment on your competence to assist with this guidance – this avoids the assessment becoming a ‘one-off’ event.
- When you are suitably prepared, you submit your evidence to us. An appointment may also be made for a formal assessment interview or workplace observation, though this will vary according to the individual situation.
- Your allocated Assessor makes a judgment about your competence, and discusses the outcome, either by awarding recognition or suggesting the need for further evidence or learning.
Different Forms of Evidence
There is a wide range of evidence that you might be able to supply to demonstrate your competency in the recognition process. We understand that you may only have a portion of evidence so we will help you generate as much as possible. Here are some examples:
- Previous Pest Management or other qualifications
- Photographs (eg safety signage used at a site, maintenance and storage area)
- Certificates from workshops on any area of pest management operations
- Work logs books from previous jobs
- Videos (showing candidate actually undertaking treatments)
- Completed pest management plans
- Completed pest inspection reports
- Completed risk assessments
- Records / details of jobs with non-chemical treatments
- Records / details of jobs with pesticides treatments
- Maintenance schedules
- Equipment Lists (eg lists of pest management equipment used)
- Copies of workplace procedures used / created by the candidate
- Copies of stock records
- References
- Resume
- Client recommendation
